Mixed media on canvas and paper
Original photographs are combined with acrylic paint and /or colored pencil and vellum. Each is a direct attempt to marry my South African past and my North American present. Even the process of layering serves this end.
Each photograph is a moment frozen in time and it is the bold point of entry for the piece. The color then fades away like a memory and a new, subtle landscape emerges - a melting pot of past experience and current reality - fertile ground from which to weave a new identity.
